Sacramento Parks & Getaway Spots
When’s the last time you enjoyed a few minutes to yourself? Went for a walk by the beach or river, took a drive to get some quiet time, or just went to a park to smell the flowers? Here are a few of our favorite parks and getaway spots in Sacramento. Grab a Gig, pack a picnic, and enjoy your day!
Use a Gig bike rack and bring your bike to the American River Bike Trail/Jedediah Smith Memorial Trail. Discovery Park serves as the trailhead. The two-lane trail is paved and mostly shaded. There are plenty of places to stop and enjoy the scenery.
William Land Park (sometimes known as just "Land Park") features over 207 developed acres. Here you will find lakes, walking and jogging paths, an amphitheater and even a rock garden. The park surrounds the Sacramento Zoo, and includes two children's amusement parks (Fairytale Town and Funderland), sports fields, and a golf course.
Thirty-two acre McKinley Park offers space for activities with its sports courts and fields, picnic areas, play areas, and more. You could also just sit on a bench by the lake, and enjoy the air.
How does a walk along the Sacramento River, soft sand, and a nature area sound? Good? Head on over to Sand Cove Park, a 10-acre spot with access to the river and a great place to enjoy a picnic lunch.
Speaking of picnics —check out the nice green grass at Seymour Park. You'll find lovely, shady spots to sit, and new walkways and pedestrian bridges make it a great place to take a long walk.
Looking for a nice park with nice green space? Howe Community Park features a pond, a dog park, a playground, picnic areas and BBQs, a gazebo, and sports fields. Checks all the boxes for a great park experience.
Southport Gateway Park is a lovely park in West Sac that features walking paths, a sheltered picnic area, a playground, a large grassy area, and an area with athletic fields.
Also located in West Sacramento, the five acre Linden Park features native greenery, a multi-purpose grass field, a shaded picnic area, and a turf volleyball court.
