Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day

Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day - November 14
Giving Tuesday - November 29

Steps Toward Change

In 1960, Ruby Bridges became a national icon for the civil rights movement when she became the first Black student to integrate the all-white William Frantz Elementary School in New Orleans.

When a class of AAA School Safety Patrollers at Martin Elementary School in South San Francisco learned about Ruby Bridges and her brave walk to school, they asked “Why isn’t there a day named after Ruby Bridges?”

Founded by Young Leaders

Today, thousands of AAA School Safety Patrollers and hundreds of thousands of their fellow students will join together in a day of dialogue through the annual Ruby Bridges Walk To School Day.

Started by a class of AAA School Safety Patrollers after learning about Ruby’s brave, history-making walk to school in 1960, this student-led initiative empowers children to make positive changes – by encouraging them to come together – to listen, learn and ultimately, champion one another.

Community Built Through Unity

Helping give you the confidence to keep your family and community safe is at the heart of the AAA mission. Which is why we’re proud to partner with the Ruby Bridges Foundation to support a day of dialogue through the annual Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day.

In honor of Ruby Bridges, starting this Giving Tuesday (November 29), Gig will be donating $1 for every trip taken from November 29 to December 5, 2022* to the Ruby Bridges Foundation.

At Gig, we're all about empowering pioneers and getting to where you're going safely. We’re in this together, one step at a time. #Gig4Good
