Self-Care Tips For Stay-At-Home

We're so grateful for the many Members who have been putting our community's health first and following physical distancing guidelines. We know that it's been a struggle, and that the recent announcements of a small loosening of restrictions feel like a welcome breath of fresh air.

In the spirit of supporting our community's continued efforts to social distance and helping you get out for a much needed change of scenery (it's good for the soul), we've started compiling outing ideas near our HomeZones: destinations that are currently open to the public and health precautions for added peace of mind. We hope they bring you a little ease and distraction.

In the Bay Area: Stunning Sunset Views🌇

While this technically isn't a new activity since we've been able to go watch sunsets since the beginning of stay-at-home, it easily falls under the radar and merits a reminder. Plus, there are so many beautiful spots to view the sunset from in the Bay Area that we could go to a different spot every day and not run out for weeks.

In the interest of giving you only the best (and, you know, not giving you decision paralysis), we curated a shortened list of our favorites:

  1. The Aquatic Park in Berkeley. Walk a lap around the lagoon to get that blood pumping (remember back when we didn’t have to be so intentional about getting some exercise in?) then watch the sunset over the Bay and San Francisco. Parking is available near the park.
  2. Ocean Beach in San Francisco. Bring blankets (it gets chilly!), settle down at least 10 feet from other visitors, and watch the sunset over the ocean. While parking lots for San Francisco beaches are closed right now, there is residential parking nearby, so be ready to walk a few blocks.
  3. Joaquin Miller Park in Oakland. Work up a light sweat hiking Sunset Trail before settling down at the Lookout Point to watch the sunset over the Bay Bridge and San Francisco. Parking is available near the park.

Health tips

  1. Public restrooms in parks are currently closed, so plan accordingly.
  2. Don't forget to pack your mask, hand sanitizer, and wipes.
  3. Be sure to set your blanket down at least 10 feet away from other visitors.

In Sacramento: Drive-In Movie Theaters🍿

Sacramentans sick of using Netflix Party with friends may not be able to go back to regular movie theaters just yet, but there is an interim option in the meantime: good ol' drive-in movies. It's the best of both worlds — you get out of the house and watch a movie, but limit your interactions with other people.

So pack your popcorn, candy, and soda (concessions won't be open) and get thee to the West Wind Drive-in Movie Theater for some physical-distanced entertainment.

Health Tips:

  1. Be prepared to park 10 feet away from other cars and stay in your car at all times, except to use the restrooms (limited number of people at a time).
  2. Don't forget to bring face masks should you need to leave your car.
  3. Also, grab hand sanitizer to wash your hands after handling cash in case the theater does not offer contactless payment.

While we did our best to confirm that these spots are open to the public, things are evolving quickly and this may change at any time. We recommend you check each location's website for up-to-date information before heading out.
