Take an 8-Hour Day Trip with Gig!
Sometimes a short day trip is all you need to get out of a rut, feel revived, connect with friends and/or family, and experience something new. There’s a lot to see when you step outside and get away for eight hours!

Here are some ideas for an 8-hour (or so) day trip excursion with Gig. Seattle Day Trips
North about 88 miles you’ll find the town of Bellingham. There’s so much to do here! Visit Whatcom Falls Park, Larrabee State Park, enjoy local art, or explore the Historic Fairhaven District. Take the Chuckanut Drive, a 24-mile scenic drive, for epic views and access to trailheads.
Approximately 130 miles southwest of Seattle, you’ll find the small town of Westport. Westport, a fishing village, offers a historical glimpse at life along the Washington coast. Enjoy the small shops along the boardwalk and the walking trails along the dunes.
Head southeast for about 83 miles to find the town of Roslyn. Nestled among the foothills of the Cascade Mountains, you might recognize Roslyn as it was featured on the show “Northern Exposure”! After exploring this historical town (you’ll see old mine shafts still standing), grab yourself some lunch at The Red Bird Cafe before heading back.
And if you feel like driving a little further, the town of Leavenworth is about 135 miles east of Seattle (though it’s not a straight line). Known for its Alpine-style buildings, this Bavarian-styled village is super fun to visit! With its live music and festivals (the Accordion Festival was in June!), it's a great place to bring family and friends for the day. A Gig-worthy trip for sure!
Bay Area Day Trips
Approximately 75 miles north from San Francisco is the quaint town of Guerneville, also known as the Russian River. This sleepy little getaway town offers you an afternoon of river fun. Rent a canoe or just splash at the shore. The Korbel Delicatessen & Market is a great place to stop for a bite before heading home.
Head northeast from San Francisco for about 150 miles to find yourself in Nevada City. Enjoy the quaint downtown area and the clean, fresh air in this relaxing small town among the trees. Have a delicious lunch at Heartwood Eatery before heading back south to the Bay Area. From the ocean to the forest and back again, it’s a great day trip.
Santa Nella is about 111 miles southeast of San Francisco. This small town has a history of being a stopping place for travelers, dating back to the 19th Century. Visit the San Luis Reservoir State Recreation Area before having lunch at Pea Soup Andersen’s - just look for the windmill.
Head south from San Francisco for about 120 miles and find yourself in Carmel-by-the-Sea. Stroll around this charming and laid back town, enjoying the cottages, art galleries, and shops. Visit Carmel Beach and have a delightful lunch at the Tree House Cafe before you head back to the Bay Area.
Sacramento Day Trips
Head northeast from Sacramento for about 68 miles to find yourself in Nevada City. Enjoy the quaint downtown area and the clean, fresh air in this relaxing small town among the trees. Have a delicious lunch at Heartwood Eatery before heading back home.
Head west for approximately 112 miles to the delightful town of Healdsburg. Combining small-town charm with stunning vistas, you will really relish in this Sonoma County gem, and you’ll feel like you are truly away from it all. Stop at Willi’s Seafood & Raw Bar for a delicious meal before you head back.
Approximately 85 miles southeast of Sacramento, you’ll find yourself in the small town of Murphys. Enjoy the art galleries, shops, and restaurants in this charming town dubbed the “Queen of the Sierra.” You’ll find a plethora of outdoor activities like hiking, paddling, and caving here. And, there is no shortage of lunch stops to choose from before you head home.
How about being a super tourist for a day? Head down to San Francisco, about 90 miles southwest. Spend the afternoon at Fisherman’s Wharf, enjoying the sites, sea lions, and people watching. The Ferry Building, just a short jaunt away, offers a myriad of lunch choices. Top it off with ice cream from Humphry Slocombe before heading back.
Remember to drive safely, lock your Gig when you stop, and have your Gig Card handy. Enjoy the trip, savor the time, and take a lot of pictures!
